Pay It Forward!
Pay It Forward! What better way to demonstrate how brightly Californians Shine! than by highlighting the goodwill and generosity of California's people? At each event we attend and during the course of the tree's journey throughout California, we will be spreading the Holiday Spirit of California by collecting non-perishable food to share with those less fortunate than ourselves.

Communities from around the State and food banks from those communities have heard the call and stepped up in the most amazing way! Because of this little idea of a gift of caring, The people of California will be providing the people of Gallup, New Mexico 20 pallets of non-perishable food items as a gift this holiday season. People in each community are then stepping up to help re-fill their local food bank’s pantries in return! While we are sharing with those of another state who are in need, we are also “taking care of our own”.

Thank you Californian’s for your awesome caring and generosity!

The Stanislaus National Forest, at the request of the Chief of the Forest Service, is leading the State of California in the harvesting and delivery of the 2011 U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree. Known as the “People’s Tree”, the Forest Service has provided the tree to our nation’s capitol since 1970.

The search is already on in the Stanislaus National Forest (located in the Central Sierra Nevada Mountains), for the perfect 60 foot red fir. The tree will grace the west front lawn of the U.S. Capitol in December 2011. The Superintendent of the Capitol Grounds will make the final tree selection in August after reviewing all the candidates presented by the Forest. The tree will be harvested on November 5, 2011, prepped for travel and loaded on a trailer to begin its 10 day tour through California. Then the journey will continue across the country, arriving in Washington D.C. the Monday after Thanksgiving.

The U. S. Capitol Christmas Tree is privately funded and donations are being sought. Click here to make a donation.
